Connect2 Wins £50 Million
It gives great pleasure to announce that Sustrans Connect2 won their bid
for £50 million from the Big Lottery Fund. Sustrans Connect2 is a UK-wide
project that will create new cycling and walking routes to improve local
travel in 79 communities across the country.
The Trevithick Trail will benefit from a share of this £50
million, which will go towards building a bridge over the A4060
trunk road in Pentrebach to create a traffic–free route. The bridge
will connect the North residential areas of Merthyr Tydfil to Pentrebach
to communities further south. It will also provide a link to local
supermarkets and workplaces, providing an attractive largely level route
into the centre of Merthyr and links to the Taff Trail.
We are immensely grateful to Merthyr Tydfil
County Borough Council Trevithick Officers and to everyone who got behind this scheme and took
the time to vote to help bring additional funding to the valley.
On behalf of the Trevithick Steering Group and all involved a big thank you for voting!
