The last time an engine ran on the line through this area was between 1880 and 1885 with the rails being taken up from a mile south of Troedyrhiw to Mount Pleasant about the same date. Between Kings Hill and Merthyr Vale the tramroad crossed the Merthyr - Cardiff road three times and the rails were taken up about 1900. For safety reasons the new cycle path only crosses the Merthyr – Cardiff road once.
